Olexandr Shapoval - Carmen 2021

A year ago, the Honored Artist of Ukraine, soloist of the National Opera of Ukraine Oleksandr Shapoval died in the war while defending his country near Mayorsk in the Donetsk region. From the first days of the full-scale war, Oleksandr signed up as a volunteer for the Territorial Defense Forces of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, and then went to the front as a grenade launcher in the hottest spots. Honoring his memory, we present to your attention an excerpt from the ballet "Carmen" performed by Honored Artists of Ukraine Oleksandr Shapoval and Khrystyna Shishpor.

This recording was made at Alexander's last benefit performance on June 26, 2021, before his retirement at the age of 46 after 28 seasons on the theater stage. This is how the audience and his colleagues said goodbye to Oleksandr when his contract and creative career at the National Opera of Ukraine ended. Oleksandr will forever remain in the hearts and memories of his students from the Kyiv State Professional Choreographic College, his colleagues from the National Opera of Ukraine, friends and acquaintances from all over the world, and, of course, the audience who went to his performances and followed his creative path. Eternal memory of the hero!
